About

DUVE is an independent art salon based in Berlin. Its program foregrounds conceptually driven, contextually aware practices across painting, sculpture, video, and mixed media. In response to an accelerated, hyper-connected world, DUVE champions work that is rigorous, nuanced, and materially precise.

The gallery presents artistic practices in which painting functions not as an autonomous image, but as part of a broader investigation into perception, materiality, and spatial experience. This dialogue between visual precision and conceptual inquiry closely resonates with the questions that shape contemporary society and its socioeconomic environment. Across different media, DUVE places particular emphasis on practices that examine the conditions of the present while remaining attentive to their historical and material contexts.

Founded in 2007 by Alexander Duve, the gallery relocated in 2012 from Invalidenstraße to an industrial space on Gitschinerstraße in Kreuzberg, and since 2018 has operated from a loft at Michaelkirchstraße 15 in Berlin-Mitte, evolving from a white cube into a salon format.

The gallery focuses on a younger generation of artists whose practices engage contemporary conditions through historically informed approaches. Particular emphasis is placed on positions addressing urbanism, late capitalism, identity, and political transformation, while maintaining formal clarity, aesthetic longevity, and a sustained engagement with the material and spatial dimensions of artistic practice.
